Privacy Policy

WatchGate is a parental-approval app for YouTube: a parent picks which YouTube channels their child can browse, and every video still needs the parent's approval before it plays. This policy explains what information WatchGate collects, from whom, and why.

Who this applies to

WatchGate has two kinds of users:

• Parents create an account and manage settings.
• Children use a device that a parent has paired to the app. WatchGate is therefore directed, in part, to children under 13, and we handle information from the child side of the app accordingly (see “Children's privacy” below).

Information we collect

From a parent:

• Email address and password, to create and secure the parent's account.
• The names of channels the parent chooses to allow, and any decisions the parent makes on approval requests (approve/deny).
• A device push-notification token, so we can notify the parent when their child requests a video.

From a child's paired device:

• A first name the parent enters for the child profile — chosen and entered by the parent, not collected directly from the child.
• Which videos the child requests, and when — limited to videos from channels the parent already approved.
• A device identifier used only to keep that device paired to the correct child profile. This identifier is not linked to any name, email, or other personal contact information for the child.

How we use this information

Solely to operate the approval flow: showing the parent what their child wants to watch, delivering the parent's decision back to the child's device, and sending push notifications for new requests. We do not sell information, and we do not use it for advertising or for any purpose unrelated to running WatchGate.

Who we share information with

We use a small number of service providers to run WatchGate, each only for the specific technical purpose below:

• YouTube Data API (Google) — to look up video and channel details (title, thumbnail, duration) for videos the parent has allowed or the child has requested. Use of the YouTube API is subject to the Google Privacy Policy.
• Supabase — our database and authentication provider, hosted in the EU.
• Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) — to deliver push notifications to parent devices.

We do not share information with data brokers or advertisers, and we do not use any of the above services' advertising or analytics products within WatchGate.

Children's privacy

We built WatchGate specifically to give parents control over what their child watches, and we've limited what we collect from the child side accordingly: a first name chosen by the parent, and records of which approved-channel videos were requested. We do not knowingly collect a child's email address, precise location, or other contact information directly from the child. A parent can review or delete their child's profile and its history at any time from their own account, or by contacting us (see below).

Data retention

We keep account and approval-history data for as long as the parent's account is active. A parent can delete their account, their child's profile, or specific approval history at any time; deleted data is removed from our active database promptly.

Your rights

Parents can access, correct, or delete their own and their child's information by using the in-app controls or by contacting us at the address below.
